A Clear Aligner Treatment Option

Invisalign is a clear aligner orthodontic system designed to help improve tooth alignment. Using a series of removable clear plastic aligners, teeth can be gradually guided toward planned positions. The aligners are designed to fit over your teeth and are less visible than traditional braces. Each set of aligners is typically worn for about two weeks, for at least twenty-two hours each day, before progressing to the next set in the series. Treatment continues according to your individual treatment plan.

What Is Invisalign?

Instead of braces that are fixed to teeth, Invisalign is a removable system consisting of clear plastic aligners that fit over the teeth. The aligners are custom-made to apply gentle pressure on your teeth, gradually guiding them toward positions determined during your treatment planning. You wear each set of aligners for approximately two weeks before progressing to the next set. You continue wearing the aligners according to your prescribed treatment plan.

Could Invisalign Help Me?

An initial consultation will help determine if Invisalign may be suitable for you or if you might benefit from another orthodontic treatment such as fixed braces. The assessment stage involves collecting diagnostic information, such as detailed dental x-rays and photographs.

Our dentist uses this information to plan your treatment digitally, creating a treatment plan that shows how each tooth may move throughout treatment. Invisalign technology allows you to preview digital images showing potential treatment outcomes, though individual results may vary.

Once the treatment plan is developed, your aligners are created and you will be provided with sets to wear progressively. We will need to see you every 6 to 8 weeks to monitor that treatment is progressing as planned and provide you with additional sets of aligners as needed. Treatment duration varies by individual case and the complexity of alignment concerns being addressed.

What to Expect During Treatment?

Treatment involves wearing the aligners for at least 22 hours each day. You should remove them when eating or drinking (except water), and when brushing and flossing your teeth. You may also remove them occasionally for activities such as playing musical instruments.

You can generally continue your normal diet, and it may be easier to maintain oral hygiene compared to fixed braces. Initially, the aligners may feel unfamiliar, and it may take some time to adjust to speaking with them. When you start wearing a new set of aligners, some mild discomfort is normal as your teeth adjust to their new positioning.

Important Considerations

  • Not all orthodontic concerns can be addressed with Invisalign
  • Treatment duration and results vary between individuals
  • Success depends on wearing aligners as directed by your dentist
  • Some cases may require additional procedures or alternative treatments

All treatments and procedures come with risks – please discuss these with your practitioner before treatment.
